How to use multiple materials on a mesh

  • Create a plane
  • Subdivide twice
  • Add a material with Map Input to UV and whatever else you want.  Add a texture to the material.  Also under Map To, click Alpha twice (so it’s yellow) and make Dvar = 0
  • Add a second material (from the Editing Panel)
  • Select the top part of the mesh and UV unwrap it.  From the Editing Panel assign the first material to this faces
  • Do the same for the bottom of the mesh

Now what?

  • Try for more complex meshes.  Design textures ahead of time to work with parts of the mesh
